A Death Without Regret

“He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years; and he departed with no one’s regret…” (2 Chronicles 21:20)

A wicked life leaves us with regrets and those around us without sorrow at our passing.  What a horrible thought that a man would die and none would mourn his loss.  This is what sin does to us – it isolates us, makes us repugnant to others, and leaves us unloved and ungrieved.

Righteousness is the opposite.  One who adorns themselves with selflessness, service, love, justice, and truth cannot help but be more beautiful for the raiment of such qualities.  Godliness makes us lovely and loved.  It is those of the world that do good that are mourned the most at their passing.  If you doubt this, just go and read the Acts 9 account of the death of Tabitha – her goodness caused many to regret and sorrow when she died.

A life lived without regrets is best lived righteously.
