“The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests hearts.” (Pr 17:3)
The smelting of precious metals is a hot, dangerous, and laborious business. The amount of energy blasted by a furnace to melt away the dross and impurities of the raw ore mined from the mountains is almost terrifying in its ferocity.
And that is what God does to hearts. There is gold in you, beautiful precious gold that bears His image deep inside your soul, but it takes some ferocious heat to blast away the impurities from the raw materials. These fiery trials might terrify you, but they are just part of the process. Trust the LORD. One day you’ll look back and be shocked by what He did with you.
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” (1 Pet 4:12-13)
