Volunteer Army

“That the leaders led in Israel, that the people volunteered, Bless the LORD!” (Judg. 5:2)
This was the song sung after God delivered Israel from Sisera and his army. God had promised to protect Israel in battle, but only if they went to battle. What a blessing it is when leaders lead and people volunteer.

What good is a Christian if we seek the blessings but don’t step up to serve? Far too often congregations are full of people waiting for others to lead the charge and do the work. When a handful of people do the lion’s share of the work, that is not a blessing, but a curse.

Bless the LORD when His people glorify Him through their voluntary service! Bring yourself, prepare to learn and grow, and show up. Next time there is a call for volunteers – bless the LORD by being one.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isa. 6:8)
