‘Yes’ starts with ‘No’

proverbs-13-18

“Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline, but he who regards reproof will be honored.” (Pr 13:18)

Nobody likes discipline.  Self-discipline forces us to wake up earlier then we want, work when we’d rather play, and watch our tongue when we’d rather say our piece.  Discipline is the process of telling yourself, “No.” over and over and over again.  It isn’t enjoyable in the moment, but it bears joyous fruit in the long run.

God wants the best life possible for us, and therefore, He warns us against self-indulgence.  Your best life is a discipline one.  You’ll never know what you can do until you say, “No.” to some things.
