When the Inside is Dirty

“They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, ‘Who can see them?’ ” (Ps 64:5)

When sin becomes so precious to us that we hold fast to it like a warm blanket, there is no amount of wise words or guidance that others can offer. If our heart clings to wickedness and secretly plans for how to bring forth its deadly fruit, the problem isn’t a behavior issue, but a spirit problem.

Behavior modification cannot change the life of those who hold fast to evil. Clean the inside of the cup if you have any hope of the outside being clean.

“You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.” (Matt 23:26)
