Truth In Your Heart

“O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.” (Ps 15:1-2)

The pursuit of truth begins with our own hearts. If I will not speak the truth to myself then I will never model that behavior for others. This is why Christianity expects us to examine ourselves on a regular basis – it is a requirement for partaking of the Lord’s Supper in a worthy manner (see 1 Cor 11:26-29).

We must be honest with our own faults and confess them (see 1 Jn 1:8-9). We must also be prepared to examine our preconceived worldviews and test them in light of what the Scriptures say (1 Jn 4:1). Just because the majority believes something or traditional a way of life has been considered acceptable does not make it so.

We must speak truth in our hearts if we are to abide with the Lord. We must learn to love truth even when it destroys our own personal strongholds and comfort zones. The only way to move from a lukewarm faith into a life of great faith is to first admit your faith is lukewarm and mourn its mediocrity (see Rev 3:15-18).

Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. (Pr 23:23)
