Time Marches On

“I am now eighty years old. Can I distinguish between good and bad? Or can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Or can I hear anymore the voice of singing men and women?” (2 Sam 19:35)

David’s faithful servant and counselor, Barzillai said this when it came time to return to Jerusalem. Barzillai was speaking a simple truth – the body wears down and you become less interest in the pleasures and events of this life. Your body will wear out and as it does, things that once were so important will cease to be and you will become uninterested in things that once brought you great joy.

Time will mellow you to this world because your body will remind you that you are not meant for here. Eternity awaits.

“Wherefore we faint not; but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.” (2 Cor 4:16)
