The Rock We Inhabit

“Be to me a rock of habitation to which I may continually come; You have given commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress.” (Ps 71:3)

A rock of habitation is a fancy way of saying a castle or fortress. It is a rock because the fortress is built into the rocks and easily defendable and it is a habitation because it is a place where you inhabit.

You don’t need a fortress unless you have enemies. It is the war-weary soldier that needs a home so well-protected that he can comfortably remove his armor and rest his bones away from the terrors and trials of battle.

May God be the home of our hearts whom we continually return to after the skirmishes of the day. Life can be hard, but God is good.

“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” (Lk 6:47-48)
