Stronger Together

“Now the man’s name was Nabal, and his wife’s name was Abigail.  And the woman was intelligent and beautiful in appearance, but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings…” (1 Sam 25:3)

Marriage at its finest is two people who are stronger together than apart.  When God made Eve, it was because Adam was not meant to be alone (see Gen 2:18).  Two people of shared moral goals become a force that is stronger than sum of its parts.

Inversely, marriage at its worst is two people that are weaker because of their bond.  Abigail and Nabal were of vastly different character and Abigail suffered for it.  She was married to a man that made it harder for her to serve God, harder for her to be good, and harder for her to grow.  He was the weak link, and her life is the epitome of being “unequally yoked” (see 2 Cor 6:14).

If you are married – do you make your spouse stronger?  Are you helping them serve God and get to heaven?

If you are single – don’t settle for anyone that won’t help you be a better Christian.  Your spouse should help you be the best person, the best light, and the best child of God you can be.  Accept nothing less.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.” (Eccl 4:9)
