Pride is Blind

“I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up the horn; do not lift up your horn on high, do not speak with insolent pride.’ ” (Ps 75:4-5)

Pride is the forked-tongued monster of the heart. It is the voice that blinds you to your weaknesses and faults and envisions a world dominated by self-worship. It makes you both the hero of every scenario and the victim of every defeat. You are never to blame but always to be praised.

Put the trumpet down and stop tooting your own horn. See with clarity and humility your own humanity and you will be more grateful, less vindictive, more loving, and you will learn new things every day. Pride stunts your growth and emaciates the soul, but humility is fertile soil in which our souls can flourish.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” (Pr 11:2)
