Blessed to Raise Them

“Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second… and Peullethai the eighth; God had indeed blessed him.” (1 Chr 26:2-5)

Not much is known about Meshelemiah the keeper of the gates of the temple in Jerusalem, but we do know this – his children were counted as a blessing from the LORD.

Make no mistake, child-rearing is a hard business that can come with much frustration, heartache, weariness, and general hand-wringing. Having said that, we make the task heavier when we view children as a burden instead of a blessing.

The right and privilege to raise children and have your name listed amongst the family tree of history is no small thing, and the tears of those who are unable to have children are evidence of what a treasured blessing they are.

The journey of parenting becomes infinitely better when we see it for what it is – a precious gift and blessing from the LORD.

“Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.” (Heb 12:9-10)
